Our mothers are special. They give us life, keep us healthy, and are there for us when we need a hug. Most of the things that our mothers do are routine… clean the house so we stay healthy… grocery shop and cook healthy meals… take us to our doctor appointments… teach us how to brush our teeth and wash behind our ears. They are the family organizer making sure every one is where they need to be and on time. They are mediators resolving sibling disputes. They are comforters when we have an ouchy or things just don’t work out. Mothers are the glue that hold the family together.
Mother’s Day is one day during the year set aside to celebrate what our mothers do for us on a daily basis. We often forget to say “Thank You” when mom washes our clothes or packs our snacks for school. So give Mom the day off, although I suspect she will do what needs to be done anyway. But make sure she knows that you appreciate every thing she does for the family by making Mother’s Day a special day for her.
Times are financially tough for families at the moment. The traditional “take Mom out for brunch” may not be feasible but that is not the only way to give Mom a great day. A great way to celebrate Mothers Day, at a reasonable price, is with a picnic. We all can make a sandwich, grab some fruit and chips, and pack a basket. This is a great way to spend the day away from routine and just enjoy being a family with Mom as the center of attention… play a family game, take some family pictures, and end the day make a scrapbook page to remember the day. Besides… what kid wants to have to wait an hour for a table and then sit nice and still. Go, be outside and act like yourselves. And don’t forget to clean up at the end of the day!
And that’s Just About It!
