Disney Cars KMart Collector Days

KMart began Collector Days for Disney Cars diecast enthusiasts on October 18, 2008. Collector Days are a chance to get Disney diecast Cars (1:55 scale) that have NOT been out of the box yet… meaning... NO BENT CARDS. Most Disney Cars in the case are available for the first time. Almost all the collector days (but the first) have had racers with synthetic rubber tires instead of plastic tires. The rest have been lenticular releases and a few Chase pieces.

How does it work? Basically, you get a raffle ticket and wait for your number to be called. Any one who can pick a ticket can participate. At 11:00 am, they begin drawing ticket numbers. If your number is drawn, you get 5 minutes to select 5 Disney Cars. Not all KMarts following the rules pertaining to the number of Disney Cars you can remove from the case you are given.

After every one with a ticket has been given an opportunity to go through a case, they raffle off all of the posters that came in the master cases. Then, it is a free-for-all to the Disney Cars that were not chosen during the first go around.

In my experience, I have found die hard collectors at these events as well as families making a special outing for their children. I fall in the later category. It is pretty cool to watch the die hard collectors look on as my 3 year old rips open the pristine card back to get his new Disney Car. The collector events have been fun.

And that’s Just About It

Disney Cars KMart Collector Day #7 was occur October 22, 2011. Like the previous collector days, this was a family event for us. We were not that excited about the case contents. There was a lack of mystery since a new chase or a "unannounced" car was not in the case. The case contained the remaining 7 World Cup Grand Prix Racers with synthetic rubber tires from Cars 2: Lightning McQueen, Jeff Gorvette, Lewis Hamilton, Miguel Camino, Carla Veloso, Max Schnell, and Raoul Caroule. My son was still smiling ear to ear buying a set of the new cars, getting a new poster and a coupon to purchase the Cars 2 DVD. Hopefully, KMart Collector Day #8 will have some added excitement.

Disney Cars KMart Collector Day #6 occurred on June 25, 2011. Like the previous collector days, this was a family event. My husband had his wish list and my son and I had our wish list. For us the event was not crowded… there were no “die-hard” collectors but there was a curious gentleman there who was going to send it all overseas. My husband had dashed to the toy aisle when we first arrived and was happy to find several Professor Zs and Carla Velosos… he snagged them all for future gifts.

During this collector’s event, 7 cars were in the case… 6 with synthetic rubber tires were introduced: Chick Hicks, Lightning McQueen, and The King from Cars and Francesco Bernoulli, Nigel Gearsley, and Shu Todoroki from Cars 2. The final car in the case was Hydraulic Ramone. We are looking forward to the next KMart Collector Day.

Disney Cars KMart Collector Day #5 occurred on October 23, 2010. For this one, we were prepared with a printed copy of the checklist, how many we were going to try and get of each, and we definitely wanted a poster.

During this collector’s event, 8 Piston Cup Racers with synthetic rubber tires were introduced: Nitroade, Sidewall Shine, View Zeen, Shiny Wax, Tank Coat, Faux Wheel Drive,Tach-O-Mint, and Gask-Its. Other Disney Cars that were present in the case were Lightning McQueen Paint Mask (Chase), Lightning McQueen Radiator Springs, Sarge Pit Crew, Kathy Copter, Dash Boardman, and Race Tow Truck Tom.

I received that ear to ear smile on my son’s face when I told him it was our turn… still priceless.

Disney Cars KMart Collector Day #4 occurred on June 12, 2009. This one was the first Collector’s Day that my family attended.

During this collector’s event, 8 Piston Cup Racers with synthetic rubber tires were introduced: Dale Earnhardt Jr., Spare O Mint, Fiber Fuel, Sputter Stop, Gasprin, Transberry Juice, RPM, and Vitoline. Other Disney Cars that were present in the case were Lightning McQueen, Sarge, Ron Hover, and Race Official Tom.

At this point I was still very new to this world. But I was happy to experience this with my son… the ear to ear smile on his face when I told him it was our turn was priceless… that is why I am HOOKED on collecting Disney Cars.

Disney Cars KMart Collector Day #3 occurred on October 17, 2009. During this collector’s event, 7 Piston Cup Racers with synthetic rubber tires were introduced: Leakless, N2O Cola, Octain Gain, Rev ‘n Go, Re-Volting, Trunk Fresh, and Vinyl Toupee. Other Disney Cars that were present in the case were Brand New Mater, Chick Hicks, Ramone (yellow), and Sheriff.

Disney Cars KMart Collector Day #2 occurred on June 20, 2009. During this collector’s event, 9 Piston Cup Racers with synthetic rubber tires were introduced: Bumper Save, Clutch Aid, Easy Idle, Lil’ Torquey Pistons, Mood Springs, No Stall, Retread, Shifty Doug, and Tow Cap. Other Disney Cars that were present in the case were Lightning McQueen, Mario Andretti (Italian Chase Packaging), Mini (Mrs, Van), Patti, Todd (Pizza Planet Truck), and the Vitoline Pitty.

Disney Cars KMart Collector Day #1 occurred on October 18, 2008. Being the first time for an event involving Disney diecast (scale of 1:55) Cars, there were reports on several blogs about some confusion. Other than that, the information about the case is difficult to find. My research found a 12 different diecast Disney Cars in the case but no mention of the quantity of each one: Charlie Checker, Dinoco Chick Hicks, Dinoco Lightning McQueen, Edwin Kranks, Fred (re-scaled), Fred (Chase), Petrol Pulaski, Shiny Wax, Sparemint, Sputter Top, Transberry Juice, and View Zeen.
