Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in May. Older kids can pick out their own gifts, make their own, and even make Mom a great meal and clean up after it. This is all very special to a mother. However, small children may need a little help from Dad or another family member like an older brother or sister.

Gift Ideas

Help them make a card. There is nothing more special to a mother than their child’s art work. There will ALWAYS be a place on the refrigerator and in the scrapbook. Simply sit down with some cardstock, paints, markers, crayons, glitter, glue, stickers, etc. and help them make a beautiful card. Be prepared for a mess to clean up, but it will be well worth it when Mom opens the card and there are tears in her eyes.

Grab some flowers for Mom. Store bought flowers are nice but…it’s SPRING. Take the kids for a walk in a field and pick a bouquet of flowers. If you don’t have a garden yourself, ask friends and family if the kids can pick a few from their gardens. Place the flowers in a vase with a bow around it.

Mothers also love pictures of the kids but often are not in any of the pictures because she is the one taking them. Spend the day with Mom and the kids walking in parks or on a beach taking pictures of her with the kids. Bring some props to make the day fun. Finish the day by choosing the best of the pictures and printing them for the scrapbook or downloading them to your digital picture frame.

Don’t forget to eat! Restaurants are nice but often crowded on Mother’s Day. Small children are asked to sit and behave which can turn rather stressful quickly so… pack a picnic instead. A few plates, sandwiches, and a drink may not be a gourmet meal but the family is together, the kids can be kids, and Mom still doesn’t have to clean the kitchen afterwards.

Hope you make Mother’s Day special for the Mom in your life.

And that’s Just About It.
